Frequently Asked Questions

Can I inspect the container before I buy it?

Whenever possible we encourage that. However, many of our containers are stored in large container parks and general access by the public is not permitted for safety reasons. In those circumstances we accurately describe and guarantee the container that we are offering for sale. We can sometimes also provide indicative photos.

Can I get my container in a particular colour?

Yes. If we do not already have the colour that you want, we can have your container re-painted to almost any colour that you would like. Extra charges do apply though.

Can you put whirly bird ventilation or a side door in my container before it is delivered?

Yes. Just tell us exactly what you want and we will obtain a quote for your approval.

How much notice do I need to give you if I want to move house with one of your containers?

Always try to give us as much forward notice as you can. We can generally arrange most relocations if you book your container 7 days in advance of when you need it.

What size container will I need to move the contents of my house?

A 20 foot container will generally accommodate the contents of an average 3 bedroom home. We recommend that if you are in doubt, make a list of your furniture etc and estimate how many boxes you will fill, then call us. We will calculate your approximate volume over the phone and provide advice as to which container you should lease or buy.

Can I load my car into the container?

Yes. It is a simple process that we will explain when you call us.

What things am I not allowed to load?

You cannot load goods that are declared Dangerous Goods. They include explosives, ammunition, gas under pressure, flammable liquids etc. There are also restrictions on the movement of plant material and soil into some States. All gas bottles and fuel tanks must be empty when you load them and you must comply with the quarantine requirements of the State that you are moving to. This is a very brief answer to a very important question. Please contact us for more details.

Who will have access to my container while my goods are inside it?

We ask all clients to provide their own padlock and to control all keys to it. The only people who will have access to your container while your goods are in it is you and whoever you give your padlock keys to. We and our carriers do not require access to your container. If a quarantine inspection is required, the respective quarantine service will ask you to be present to open the container for them to conduct the inspection.

Can I call you if I need advice while I am loading the container?

Yes. You can call us for advice 7 days a week.

Do I need insurance for my move?

We recommend that you should consider transit insurance for your relocation. Unlike many removal companies and other businesses who lease shipping containers, we do not sell transit insurance. There is a very good reason for that. If you already have household insurance you probably also already have transit insurance built into your existing policy. We recommend that you contact your current insurance company and tell them that you are moving house between certain dates and that you need transit insurance during your move. Remember that your move starts when you carry the first item out of the house and ends when you place the last item into your new house (at least 90% of damages occur during loading and unloading). Your current insurer should provide transit insurance at no extra cost to you. If your current insurer tells you that they do not do that, we respectfully recommend that it might be time to consult the yellow pages and look for a new insurer that will provide that service at no extra cost.
